This week we are going to discuss the health benefits of berries to a dog’s diet! A lot of people ask, is it safe to give my dog berries? The answer is Yes, Yes and more Yes! Not only is it safe, but there are so many health benefits that come with including berries in your Pup's diet. That is why we at Harley’s Treats found it important to create Bella’s Very Berry Biscuits. Bella’s Very Berry Biscuits include 3 types of berries: Blackberries, Raspberries, & Blueberries.
Now let’s go ahead a look at these health benefits!
First, berries are an excellent source of dietary fiber, which helps fight obesity in dogs. The fiber aides in keeping a dog fuller for a longer period. This insoluble fiber in berries also creates bulk in the dogs poop (yes, I said poop, we all do it, some easier than others!) but that’s another benefit to berries in a dogs diet. Fiber in the berries create bulk and this bulk helps ease constipation, keeping a healthy digestive and immune system in our dog.
Berries are also loaded with antioxidants. These antioxidants reduce the risk of the dog developing many diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and cancers. There are many anti- inflammatory properties of the antioxidants that will also help alleviate joint pain as our pups age.
We hope this article helps explain why we at Harley’s Treats find these low sugar, low calorie berries that are rich in vitamins and minerals and packed with antioxidants a valuable component to your dog’s diet!
